May
29-30, 2008 - Division III Convention
The
Division III Convention was held in Calgary and hosted by the
Western Hospitality Singers and as always, was as much an event to
gather the barbershop singers from across Alberta as it was to have
a contest to allow choruses and quartets to gauge where they are
at. Stampede City Chorus sang Tin Roof Blues & Wink and a
Smile for a combined score of 391, 8 points out of first place.
Trademark and Close Encounter also competed in the quartet contest
– Trademark will be representing Div III at the District
Convention in Whistler in October. Highlight of the Convention was
the attendence by Bill Biffle, Barbershop Harmony Society
President, Kevin Kelly, Evergreen District President, and others
from Evergreen District – Kevin had mentioned to Bill that
Division III holds a unique convention that Bill should come see
first hand – few other conventions are held across N.America
that have the kind of comradery that is just expected as part of
the experience in Division III.

– Shades of Blue - 54th
Annual Show
For the
54th Annual
Show, the Stampede City Chorus put on Shades of Blue that includes
the “blues” from New Orleans and the Tin Roof Cafe, a
trip out under the Blue Moon, and a bit of cowboy blues. Special
guests were the Johnny Thorson Trio with his famous banjo picking
and a trombone and tuba to complement the sound. The quartets
Trademark, Close Encounter, and GOLD sang on the show with MC-ing
by the multi-costumed Darcy Fraser.

March 28,
2009 - Calgary Sings! 2009
Every
two years, the Adult Recreational Choir Society invites a number of
choirs and choruses to join them for the event known as Calgary
Sings! The Stampede City Chorus, Rev52, Calgary Men's Chorus,
Petro-Canada Choir, Savridi Singers, Chinook Winds Chorus, The
Irish Cultural Society Choir, She's Up to Something, and the host
choir, Up To Something. The quartet Trademark provided some
pre-show entertainment and The Heebee Jeebees served as hosts to
keep the show moving along. The response was tremendous to the
Stampede City Chorus with enthusiastic response well after we left
the stage – it was a blast to have an opportunity to sing for
people who may have never heard barbershop-style music.
